A journey of a thousand miles…

Here it is. A website. That’s all you need, right? And then you get everything you want from life? Sure. Why not? I’ve tried to convince enough people, “build a website”, “start a blog”, without doing it myself. Here’s to taking your own advice.

Once several years ago I woke up after a night of no little debauchery and found that I’d left myself a message, written in a notebook next to my bed. “I want to be performing.” My inebriated, subconscious self knew what it wanted (it usually does). Did that spark a journey of hard work and self discovery, leading to untold success and satisfaction?

Nope! Of course not. That message was strong, but had a lot of competition: “I want to make money and live comfortably,” ”I want to make sure people like me,” “I want to binge watch TV shows while washing down a Big Mac meal with half a bottle of whiskey.” It takes longer to grow up than you might expect.

The image that accompanies this post is meant to illustrate the anxiety felt when beginning something new. When starting out, it’s easy to see that any endeavor is impossible, fraught with danger, effectively a leap off a cliff. However, many seem to glide along and find success, completely unaware that there is nothing but open air beneath them. Which is wisdom: to trust the senses which scream certain death, or to realize that people don’t actually levitate, so there must be some path, some support, invisible or just temporarily hidden?

So here we are - this website exists to assuage the many people who always want to know what I’ve got coming up, as a platform to share my creations and thoughts, and as a reminder that while a journey of a thousand miles may begin with a single step, it takes about 2 million to go that whole distance. We’re just getting started.
